Accessibility at Cartmel Racecourse

Cartmel is an outdoor racecourse with limited shelter and uneven grass in most public areas. Here is what the racecourse offers, and how to book it.

Talk to the racecourse first

Call 015395 36340, or use the racecourse contact page. Tell them the meeting, your ticket, how you are arriving, any equipment you use and the facilities you need.

Your visit, step by step

  1. Personal assistant tickets

If you need full-time assistance, you can apply for a free Personal Assistant ticket. It is only issued with a paid Paddock adult ticket. Buy Paddock tickets for everyone except the assistant, then send the application form with evidence of DLA, PIP, an Access Card or registration as severely sight impaired.

  2. Blue Badge parking

Blue Badge parking is available on both sides of the course, pre-booked at £10 a space: email your booking reference, car registration and a photo of your Blue Badge. There is also free Blue Badge parking at Seven Acres.

  3. Toilets

Accessible toilets are on both the Paddock and Course sides. The racecourse publishes an accessibility map showing where they are.

  4. Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere. If you have booked hospitality, email your booking reference so the team knows to expect your dog.

  5. Getting around

Most public areas are grass, and access to both enclosures closes about 30 minutes before each race and stays shut while horses are running. Plan your moves between races.
