Spring: Cheltenham, Aintree and Ayr
Cheltenham Ladies Day is Wednesday 17 March, followed by Aintree on Friday 9 April. Both sit within a larger Festival, so check the actual day on your ticket rather than booking only by the Festival name. Our opinion is to decide which experience interests your group most before choosing accommodation: the race programme, a particular viewing area and the journey all matter.
Aintree’s published Friday schedule has gates opening at 10:30am and racing from 1:45pm to 5:15pm. Its Ladies Day page says the Style Awards will return. The detailed awards page still describes 2026, so obtain the 2027 entry arrangements before planning your afternoon around entering. The Aintree Ladies Day guide covers the Friday in more detail.
Ayr’s Scottish Grand National Ladies Day is Friday 16 April. Its official event page lists a £32 full-price Grandstand ticket and £42 full-price Club badge. The lower early-bird figures on the same page have a stated deadline of 31 May 2026, which has passed; the full prices are the useful comparison here. Check the price displayed at booking before paying.
For these spring visits, our suggestion is to test the outfit with a coat, not just as an indoor combination. Think about the time you expect to spend watching outdoors and the walk back to your transport. The Cheltenham clothing guide and Grand National clothing guide distinguish the venue policies from our outfit suggestions.
May and June: Nottingham, Perth and Epsom
Nottingham has announced Saturday 8 May. Its event page describes two enclosures for Ladies Day, with the Premier ticket adding the Centenary Bar, VIP lawn and Robin Hood Bar to General Admission access. Agree the ticket area with your companions before buying, especially if you intend to meet inside a particular bar.
Perth’s 2027 fixture announcement lists Ladies Day in aid of Breast Cancer Now on Thursday 13 May. The announcement gives the date and says tickets and hospitality launch in October 2026. Use the current booking page for your chosen product; a previous season’s restaurant package is not a reliable 2027 admission price.
The Jockey Club’s Ladies Day calendar confirms Epsom Downs on Friday 4 June, with the Oaks among the day’s racing. Read the enclosure description before selecting a ticket. Our recommendation is to compare what the admission includes and where your group wants to watch before spending time on restaurant or transport upgrades.
For a group travelling from several places, share one clear booking summary: course, Friday or Saturday as applicable, date, enclosure and arrival meeting point. Ask each person to check their confirmation against it. A group that has booked the same day but different areas can find the social plan difficult to carry out.
July and August: summer choices
Newmarket Ladies Day is Thursday 8 July, confirmed in the Jockey Club’s calendar. Newcastle follows on Saturday 24 July, with its event page showing Grandstand Super Early Bird admission at £35 and Premier Super Early Bird at £45. The Newcastle page says its 2027 entertainment announcement is still to follow, so choose the day for the published offering rather than a performer from an earlier year.
Musselburgh has announced Friday 6 August and displays an Early Bird Adult ticket at £49. Its event information says there are no group discounts, child, older-person or concession tickets for this day. It also asks visitors to book their return transport in advance and describes courtesy bus connections with Wallyford and Newcraighall stations.
Beverley’s published fixture list names Wednesday 11 August. Its enclosure policy makes Premier the smartest area, with sportswear and fancy dress excluded; Grandstand & Paddock and Picnic are more relaxed. If bringing children, read the Junior-ticket rule for Premier on Ladies Day rather than assuming the free admission policy for another enclosure applies everywhere.
York’s confirmed calendar places Yorkshire Oaks and Ladies Day on Thursday 19 August. The County Stand requires men and those following that dress code to wear a jacket, collared shirt and tie. Grandstand & Paddock has no formal dress code. Our recommendation is to choose your area first, then make the outfit decision, because the County Stand requirement materially changes what to pack.
September: Thirsk Ladies Day
Thirsk’s 2027 fixture page confirms Saturday 4 September and names Most Stylish and Best Hat competitions. It lists gates at 11am, while first- and last-race times have not yet been supplied. Use the final event timings when making a precise travel plan.
The official Premier policy includes restaurants and private hospitality boxes. Men may wear a collared shirt or a collared jacket over a T-shirt; smart trousers, unripped jeans or tailored shorts and clean smart trainers are allowed. Jackets and ties are optional. Sportswear, fancy dress and ripped clothing are excluded. Grandstand, Paddock and Picnic have no dress code.
Our suggestion for this later-season option is to keep the clothing adaptable and avoid making your return journey dependent on an unpublished finish time. If a competition matters to you, obtain the entry instructions and any registration deadline from the current event information before setting off.
2027 Ladies Day not announced on the pages checked
Pontefract’s official 2026 calendar lists Wednesday 5 August 2026 as last year’s Ladies Day. A 2027 Ladies Day date was not found on the official fixture and home pages checked on 14 October 2026. Use the Pontefract hub for the course and wait for its dated announcement before reserving a trip specifically for Ladies Day.
Goodwood’s dedicated Ladies Day page still gives Thursday 30 July 2026, last year’s date. The main Festival page has 2027 Festival dates, but the Ladies Day page had not been updated to name a 2027 date when checked. Use the Goodwood hub and the official Ladies Day page for the next dated announcement.
Booking a day that suits your group
Our advice is to agree a total budget before anyone books. Include admission, travel, food and accommodation if needed. A hospitality price and a public admission price buy different things, so compare the included facilities and meals rather than just the headline figure. Read any booking charges and cancellation terms while the choice is still reversible.
Start with the member of the group whose requirements are least flexible. That might be an accessible route, a reserved seat, a dietary requirement or a last train home. Ask the venue about access arrangements before buying a ticket that assumes those needs can be sorted out on arrival.
If several people are buying separately, give everyone the exact event and enclosure names. Keep a list of confirmed bookings so that the organiser can see whether anyone still needs a ticket. For accommodation, check the journey from the property to the racecourse, not just the distance shown on a map.
Decide whether you want to stay for entertainment after racing. A plan based only on the final race can leave you choosing between the music and your reserved train. Check the published programme and decide your leaving time before choosing a restrictive fare.
Clothing, footwear and competitions
Our starting point is an outfit you can wear comfortably for the whole journey. Put it on with the intended shoes and outer layer, walk for a while and sit down. Check that you can reach your phone and ticket without putting other belongings on the ground. Choose accessories that stay secure when you move.
Read the requirements for your own enclosure and any hospitality room. A relaxed public area and a formal stand can be part of the same racecourse. The word Ladies Day does not create one national rule about hats, suits or footwear, and entering a fashion competition may have separate instructions.
For a competition, look up the current year’s categories, eligibility and registration process. Keep those details accessible on your phone and allow time to find the right place. Our opinion is that the outfit should still work for the racing and journey even if you do not enter or stay until judging finishes.
Getting home without a last-minute decision
Choose your return transport while you are arranging the outward trip. For a train journey, check the walk or shuttle to the station and the final connection home. Save the relevant times and allow a margin for leaving the venue. For a taxi, agree the pickup point and keep the provider’s contact details available.
If driving, check whether the event requires advance parking and which entrance your booking uses. Agree the driver and return meeting point with companions beforehand. Keep the layer you will need at the end of the afternoon with you until you are on the way.
Use the course hubs linked in the table to compare travel and places to stay. The first-raceday guide explains how the afternoon fits together, while the individual Festival guides help with a longer visit. Keep the day simple enough that your group can enjoy both the racing and the time together.
