Dress code at Redcar Racecourse

Redcar has no formal dress code and asks visitors to dress for the weather. Many guests choose occasion outfits for Premier Days, including Ladies Day, but that is a preference rather than a universal clothing requirement. Check the forecast before choosing your layers and footwear, and think about the time you will spend outdoors during the meeting. If you have booked a specific dining or hospitality package, consult its instructions or ask Redcar for clarification before travelling. This keeps your outfit choice aligned with the area you have actually booked.

Getting to Redcar

The racecourse sits between Redcar town centre and the seafront. Check which entrance serves your ticket: the Grandstand and Course Enclosure have separate approaches and there is no crossover between them.

By train

Redcar Central

Redcar Central is the nearest station. Regular services connect through the Tees Valley and via Darlington on the East Coast Main Line. The Course Enclosure entrance is on West Dyke Road; use that entrance if your ticket is for the Course Enclosure.

By car

Free public parking

The racecourse lists Redcar Lane (TS10 2FD) for the Grandstand entrance and West Dyke Road (TS10 1HT) for the Course Enclosure. Free public parking is available. Limited trackside parking for Grandstand guests needs to be booked with admission.

By taxi

Pre-book locally

The racecourse lists local taxi and coach operators and advises visitors to book ahead. Give the driver the entrance for your enclosure: Redcar Lane for the Grandstand or West Dyke Road for the Course Enclosure.

Parking at Redcar Racecourse

Redcar provides free parking for both enclosures. Grandstand vehicles approach from Redcar Lane, while Course vehicles use West Dyke Road. Trackside parking for Grandstand visitors is a separate bookable option arranged with admission tickets, with a hanger sent by post. Coaches and minibuses use the centre-course area, serving both enclosures, and follow the Course signs on West Dyke Road. Check the official directions and your parking booking before travelling so that you arrive through the correct approach.

Hotels near Redcar Racecourse

Redcar is a useful base for the course and seafront; Saltburn, farther down the coast, offers more hotel and guest-house choices. The local visitor service lists assessed accommodation across the borough. These are town stays rather than rooms at the racecourse.

Redcar

Stay in town for the beach, promenade and racecourse. Redcar and Cleveland’s visitor guide lists these local options.

  • The Claxton Hotel, A High Street hotel with 36 en-suite bedrooms, sea views and 11 ground-floor rooms; the promenade and town centre are close by.
  • The Park Hotel, A Redcar hotel overlooking the coastline, with its own restaurant and bar meals.
  • Red Barns Bed & Breakfast, A historic building on Kirkleatham Street, around 1.8 km from the racecourse and 800 m from Coatham Beach.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea

A separate Victorian resort town along the coast, with a seafront, pier and cliff tramway. Choose it for a stay by the beach and allow for the journey back to Redcar.

  • Brockley Hall, A Victorian coastal-town hotel with 30 en-suite rooms and a restaurant and brasserie.
  • The Spa Hotel, A seafront hotel in Saltburn, listed by the local visitor service among the area’s hotels.
  • Saltburn House Bed and Breakfast, A short walk from Saltburn town centre, with 22 en-suite bedrooms and a lift to the first floor.

Evenings in Redcar

Redcar’s evening options are in town and on the seafront. If your visit falls on a race day, book dinner ahead and leave time to get from the course back into town.

For a seafront drink

The Beacon Lounge

At the base of the Redcar Beacon, this seafront bar serves food and drinks, with views over the coast. The Beacon itself has an elevated public viewing platform, so it makes a natural stop before or after a meal.

For a pub evening

Pubs around the town centre

The local visitor guide lists Redcar venues including The Cleveland Bay, The Hop and Grape, O’Grady’s, The Pig and Whistle and The Starting Gate. Check each pub’s current opening hours and food service when choosing where to eat.

For a show or film

The Regent Cinema

The new Art Deco-style Regent on the seafront has three screens for current films and Event Cinema, including opera, ballet, concerts and live shows. Its operator publishes the current programme and ticket prices.

Things to do while you are here

Redcar and the nearby coastal towns give a race visit some options beyond the track, from maritime history in the town to Saltburn’s Victorian seafront.

Zetland Lifeboat Museum

On Redcar’s Esplanade, this volunteer-run museum houses the Zetland, built in 1802 and described by the museum as the world’s oldest surviving lifeboat. It served for 78 years and saved more than 500 documented lives. Entry is free; donations are welcome.

Kirkleatham Museum and grounds

Three miles from the seaside town, the borough museum occupies a 1709 Queen Anne building that began as a free school. Exhibitions cover local industrial, maritime and social history. The grounds include a children’s play area and a woodland trail with hard-surfaced paths; the museum also runs family events and seasonal exhibitions.

Saltburn’s pier and cliff tramway

Saltburn grew as a Victorian spa resort. Its pier, beach huts and water-powered cliff tramway remain central to the seafront; the tramway links the town above the cliffs with the beach below. It is a straightforward coastal outing by rail or car from Redcar.

Explore the coast

The borough visitor guide has practical information on the coast, museums, food and accommodation around Redcar and Saltburn.

Use the right entrance

The Grandstand entrance is off Redcar Lane and the Course Enclosure entrance is off West Dyke Road. The enclosures do not connect, so arrive at the gate for your ticket.

Picnics and parking

The Course Enclosure allows picnics and limits brought-in alcohol to personal consumption. Free public parking is available; the limited trackside car park is a separate Grandstand option that must be reserved.

Payment and betting

The racecourse says gate admission is available on the day and costs more than advance tickets. Betting is optional; customers placing bets must be 18 or over.

Families and groups

Children can attend Redcar’s fixtures free with an adult, and the Course Enclosure has an outdoor play area.

Under-18 admission and play

The racecourse says everyone under 18 is admitted free to all fixtures when accompanied by an adult. The Course Enclosure’s playground is open at every meeting; Premier Days add free family entertainment. Choose the Course Enclosure if the play area is a priority.
