Which enclosure should you choose?

Perth has two public enclosures: the Grandstand Enclosure and the Picnic Enclosure. Grandstand admission gives access to the Parade Ring, Winner’s Ring, bars and restaurants; Picnic is a separate outdoor ticket, with an additional car pass if you want to drive into that enclosure. Premium marquee tickets, Ladies Day’s Grazing on the Green and hospitality packages are sold separately.

Dress code at Perth Racecourse

Perth asks Grandstand guests, including hospitality visitors, to wear smart-casual clothes, excluding ripped jeans and football attire. Picnic visitors should dress for the weather because that enclosure is entirely outdoors. Check the forecast before choosing your layers and footwear, and think about the time you will spend outdoors during the meeting. If you have booked a specific dining or hospitality package, consult its instructions or ask Perth for clarification before travelling. This keeps your outfit choice aligned with the area you have actually booked.

Getting to Perth

Perth is at the heart of Scotland; the racecourse is about three miles north of the city.

Parking at Perth Racecourse

Perth offers free on-site parking and asks visitors to follow raceday signs on the approach. Accessible parking is near the Grandstand entrance; tell the parking stewards if you have a Blue Badge or need that provision. The accessible area is on grass, with a short route uphill over gravel to the gates. Let the customer-care team know if assistance is needed. Check the event’s travel directions before leaving and allow for the surface conditions when planning arrival.

Hotels near Perth Racecourse

Perth city is the practical base for the racecourse shuttle and has independent hotels, familiar chains and a historic coaching hotel. For a rural stay, look beyond the city to the Tay valley and Scone. These are real places to book, not a substitute for a town search.

Perth city

City-centre addresses put restaurants, the station and the Mill Street shuttle stop within reach. The old town centre has the greatest choice if you are travelling by train.

  • The Salutation Hotel, Historic city-centre hotel on South Street, with a restaurant and bar.
  • Parklands Hotel, Boutique hotel beside South Inch and close to Perth rail and bus stations.
  • Mercure Perth Hotel, A converted 15th-century watermill in the city centre, with 76 bedrooms.
  • Premier Inn Perth City Centre, A chain option in the centre, useful for a straightforward overnight stay.

Perthshire and Scone

Choose a countryside base if you have a car and want to turn the meeting into a longer Perthshire visit; allow for the onward journey to the racecourse.

  • Holiday Inn Express Perth, A9-side hotel outside the centre, with a short drive into Perth.
  • Ballathie House Hotel, Country-house hotel north of Perth beside the River Tay; a car is useful for the racecourse and city.

Evenings in Perth and Scone

Perth’s centre has an easy post-racing evening: book dinner around the High Street and St John Street, then choose theatre, live music or a pub. Check the current programme or venue opening days when arranging a particular night.

undefined

Perth Theatre and Concert Hall

The two venues host touring music, comedy, theatre and classical concerts. Look at the programme before you travel; matinee and evening performances make this an option beyond racedays.

undefined

The Twa Tams

A long-running live-music pub on Scott Street, known for local and touring bands. It is a relaxed choice for a drink and music after dinner in the city centre.

undefined

Dinner in the centre

North Port is an independent restaurant serving seasonal Scottish food in a restored historic setting. Kisa’s serves dinner with South Asian flavours near Mill Street; both are city-centre choices for a proper evening meal.

Things to do while you are here

Perth makes a compact city break as well as a race day. In the centre, the museum, galleries, theatre and riverside are close together; woodland trails and Scone Palace make good half-day outings beyond the central streets.

Perth Museum and the Stone of Destiny

The museum on St John’s Place tells stories from 10,000 years of Scottish and world history. Its permanent galleries are free; timed tickets for the Stone of Destiny experience are collected at the front desk. In October–April it opens 10am–5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am–4pm Sunday, with planned maintenance closure from 1–12 January 2027.

Black Watch Castle & Museum

Balhousie Castle on Hay Street houses displays about Scotland’s oldest Highland regiment. Standard admission in 2026 is £13.25 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5.50 for children aged 5–15, and £31.25 for a family ticket; under-fives enter free. The grounds and North Inch are close by.

Kinnoull Hill and the River Tay

Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park has waymarked woodland paths and viewpoints east of the city. For an easier city-centre walk, follow the Tay-side paths at North Inch; the River Tay Public Art Trail forms a 2.5-mile loop linking sculptures with the river and local stories.

Perth Art Gallery

The gallery’s collection includes Scottish artists such as Joan Eardley and Sir William MacTaggart, alongside local and international work. It is a useful indoor stop in the centre and can be paired with Perth Museum on the same visit.

Scone Palace

Just north of Perth, the palace and grounds combine Scottish royal history with gardens, a maze and an adventure playground. Its Moot Hill is associated with the crowning of Scottish kings; check seasonal opening dates when planning a separate visit.

On the day

A Perth raceday is a jumps meeting in the parkland at Scone, about 3 miles (5 km) from the city centre. Plan the city-to-course leg as part of your ticketed day: the venue’s shuttle leaves from Perth Concert Hall on Mill Street, while free parking is available at the course.

Perth Racecourse’s 2027 fixture announcement, checked 3 October 2026. It gives meeting dates but not gates-open, first-race or last-race times.

What to wear

Smart casual is typical; no football shirts.

Choose your enclosure

The Grandstand Enclosure has the parade ring and Winner’s Ring. The Picnic Enclosure is the relaxed family area, with picnic furniture and space to bring food; alcohol is not permitted there. The racecourse also sells hospitality in the Dewhurst Stand.

Getting between races

Free racecards are available in print or digitally, according to the racecourse FAQ. Take time to see the horses in the parade ring before a race and the Winner’s Ring afterwards; the Grandstand gives access to both areas.

Betting is optional

You don’t need to bet to enjoy the day. If you do, you must be 18 or over; set a limit before you arrive.

Families and groups

Family Raceday and children’s admission

The 2027 calendar lists Family Raceday on Sunday 11 July. Perth’s 2026 Family Raceday page said under-18s went free and advertised football activities, inflatables, a cycle track, ponies and lawn games. The Picnic Enclosure is the family area; racecourse facilities say picnics are welcome there, but alcohol is not. The 2026 entertainment is not a promise of the 2027 programme.
