One general admission ticket covers all the public areas. Dining and hospitality are add-ons with reserved indoor space, and what’s on offer varies by raceday.
From £23 in 2026
Access to the public lawns, rails, parade-ring area, grandstand steppings and public bars. There is no formal dress code: smart clothes are popular on major days, but weatherproof layers and practical shoes are sensible.
Bookable table
An upper-grandstand bistro overlooking the finish and final furlong. Tables have a 90-minute dining period. Booking is recommended; walk-ins depend on space. Ordinary general admission is still required.
Hospitality
Course-facing hospitality near the winning post and Parade Ring, usually with admission, a reserved table and food. Each fixture page lists that day’s menu.
Groups
Reserved picnic tables and drinks for groups at selected meetings, listed on each fixture page. They’re add-ons rather than a separate enclosure.
Compare every enclosure side by side: prices, views, bars and food, dress codes and entrances.
Musselburgh generally has no particular dress code and asks racegoers to wear comfortable clothes for the weather. Dressing up is popular on Ladies Day, but the general guidance treats that as an occasion choice. Check the forecast before choosing your layers and footwear, and think about the time you will spend outdoors during the meeting. If you have booked a specific dining or hospitality package, consult its instructions or ask Musselburgh for clarification before travelling. This keeps your outfit choice aligned with the area you have actually booked.

A quick estimate for your group. Where we have confirmed a ticket price it’s filled in; otherwise add the price from the racecourse’s booking page. Change any figure to match your plans.
Musselburgh is on the edge of Edinburgh, with good buses and a free raceday bus from two stations.
ScotRail’s Edinburgh Waverley–Wallyford journey averages 13 minutes. Wallyford is on the North Berwick line and Newcraighall is on the Borders Railway. The course runs a free raceday courtesy bus from both stations, with fixture-specific times online. At Wallyford, board beside the Park and Ride. The bus returns after racing.
East Coast Buses 106, 113, 124 and X24 stop on Linkfield Road, around four minutes on foot from the gates. Lothian 26 and 44 stop at Musselburgh Police Station, around ten minutes away. Allow extra time on big racedays, when local traffic is busy.
The public car and coach parks are at the top of Balcarres Road, less than a mile from the A1 and less than two miles from the A720. Parking is free. It is about five minutes on foot to the entrance, or use the free car-park shuttle. Cars may be left overnight, but that is parking only, not permission to camp.
Drivers may set down outside the main entrance before continuing to the car park. Arrange the return pickup before racing finishes and expect road delays. Local taxi firms are listed on the racecourse’s Find Us page.
Blue Badge spaces are near the front of the public car parks at the top of Balcarres Road. The entrance is about 500 metres away and a free shuttle serves it. For a non-standard parking requirement, call 0131 665 2859 before travelling.
Musselburgh’s homepage confirms free parking, while its FAQs direct all racegoers, including those needing accessible parking, to Car Park 3. Staff then direct visitors towards the appropriate entrance. Vehicles may remain overnight at the owner’s risk, but gates can be closed outside office hours, so check collection arrangements before leaving a car. Consult the official map and tell staff if you need help with the route between your parking position and the admission entrance.

Book trains to Wallyford or Newcraighall.
Stay in Musselburgh for the shortest transfer, in Edinburgh for the widest evening choice, or farther along the East Lothian coast for a weekend by the sea. Drive times below are planning estimates in ordinary traffic, not guarantees on a major raceday.
New Year’s Day and Ladies Day are annual sell-outs, and Edinburgh’s festivals put heavy pressure on rooms in August. A racing cancellation doesn’t automatically cancel a hotel booking, so compare deposit, amendment and refund terms before paying.
Best for a short taxi or drive to the racecourse.
Use rail or bus and leave the car behind.

Musselburgh’s centre and Fisherrow are close enough for food after an afternoon meeting. Book your table for after the last race; evening meetings can finish at 9pm.
A long-established pub on North High Street serving seasonal Scottish food. A good place for a meal and a drink before heading back to Edinburgh.
A seafood-and-grill restaurant and fish-and-chip shop at 171–173 North High Street, near Fisherrow harbour. You can see the menus and book a table on its website.
The Musselburgh café on the High Street has served the town since 1908 and offers meals, cakes and its own ice cream. It works better after afternoon racing than after a late summer card.
The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, useful when you want dinner and a room in the same place. Guests using its car park must register their vehicle at the entrance tablet.
Venues and race times checked 1 October 2026; reserve directly for New Year, Edinburgh Cup and Ladies Day.
Musselburgh has enough for a second day without going back into Edinburgh, including local history, coastline and a National Trust property.
A National Trust for Scotland estate on Newhailes Road. Guided house visits explain the Dalrymple family and its rococo interiors; the grounds and play area make it useful for mixed-age groups.
A volunteer-run museum covering the town from its Roman settlement through fishing, mining, mills and modern life. It is a compact rainy-day option in the town centre.
The historic nine-hole course sits inside the racecourse. Local tradition links Mary, Queen of Scots with golf here in 1567, and the unusual shared landscape explains much of the racecourse’s character.
Walk west from the town centre to the harbour and shore, or follow the Musselburgh Trail plaques beside the river. It is free and easy to fit around an afternoon train.
The National Trust for Scotland’s sheltered walled garden lies in the historic village of Inveresk, south of the town. Seasonal planting makes it a quiet contrast to a crowded raceday.
The arts organisation stages music, comedy, cinema and family shows in Musselburgh and Haddington venues while its main Musselburgh home is unavailable. Check the named venue carefully when booking.
These are the times for the next raceday. Musselburgh publishes gate, first-race and last-race times for every meeting.

Security may search bags at the entrance. The public food offer includes Café 1816, Pinkie’s Deli, bars and street-food units; Pinkie’s lists vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy-aware choices. If you have a medical dietary need, contact the racecourse before bringing your own food.
General admission has no formal dress code. Major social days are dressier, but much of the viewing is outside and cover is not guaranteed. Bring waterproof layers and footwear suitable for standing on lawns or grandstand steps.
The course sells printed race programmes and also makes a digital programme available from the fixture page on the day. Bring a card, and some cash for the independent bookmakers.
Assistance dogs are welcome. If you’re thinking of bringing a pet dog or a pushchair, call the office on 0131 665 2859 first.
Keep your ticket: the terms for that fixture apply. Hotel, travel and hospitality bookings have their own cancellation terms and aren’t automatically refunded with your admission.
Ordinary re-entry is not allowed. If you must leave for an urgent reason, speak to Customer Services or security before going through the exit.
You don’t need to bet to enjoy the day. If you do, you must be 18 or over; set a limit before you arrive.
Most Musselburgh meetings admit children aged 17 and under free with a paying adult, but three major days are exceptions and free tickets can run out when capacity is reached.
Under-18s are free with a paying adult except on New Year’s Day, Edinburgh Cup day and Ladies Day. Each paying adult or concession can bring up to four children. Book the child ticket in advance: if a meeting sells out, none will be issued at the gate.
The Superhero Family Raceday on 20 July 2027 combines the Flat card with themed entertainment and fancy dress. Gates open at noon, the first race is 2:30pm and the last is 5:30pm.
Children’s dishes are offered in the Harris Tweed Bistro, and the public cafés provide simpler food. The site is largely outdoors, so plan warm layers, sun protection or waterproofs and identify a quieter meeting point before the crowds build.
