The view
The public enclosure gives a grandstand view and trackside sightlines, with access to the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure between races. The General Admission page highlights the finish line and grandstand. Exeter sits high on Haldon Hill and has open, exposed viewing, so it is sensible to expect wind and rain. For an indoor meal or table overlooking the racecourse, buy one of the separate restaurant packages rather than expecting dining to be part of General Admission.
Food and drink
Exeter’s official food page says mobile menus can change by meeting; here are the fixed, named facilities and any food included in the ticket.
Denman Room Bar
This course-facing bar serves hot and cold food, including fish and chips and locally sourced sausages, with large screens and sheltered seating.
AP’s Bar
Hot and cold snacks include Devon pasties, homemade soup and cakes; there are screens, betting facilities and unreserved tables.
Mobile food units
Menus vary by meeting and typically include fish and chips, hog roasts, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Facilities
Grandstand
The general ticket includes grandstand viewing and access to general public areas.
Betting
Tote and bookmakers operate; cash is accepted for betting. Concessions are cashless, and there are no cash machines on course.
Racecard and app
Buy a paper racecard from the ticket cabin or Tote stands, or use the Exeter Racecourse app.
Accessible facilities
Lifts and accessible toilets are available in Haldon and Brockman stands; marked wheelchair viewing points are provided.
Dress code
Exeter asks visitors to dress to feel their best; there is no formal dress requirement. The course is open and exposed, so layers and a waterproof are practical. The Jockey Club asks visitors not to wear team kits; fancy dress that is vulgar or offensive may be refused.
Getting in
Enter through the main entrance and have an advance ticket ready on your phone or printed. Gates vary by fixture; for Haldon Gold Cup Day on Friday 6 November 2026, gates open at 10:40am and the first race is at 12:40pm. Walk-up tickets are available if the fixture has not sold out and are card-only. Exeter searches bags: bags under A4 size (40 × 30 × 30 cm) are allowed and may be searched. No food or drink, glass bottles or glasses may be brought in without written permission; baby/toddler food is allowed.
Accessibility
Accessible Blue Badge parking is five metres from the main entrance, first come, first served; another area is in the Owners & Trainers car park 15 metres from the entrance. There is step-free access through the main entrance, wheelchair ramps to ground-floor areas, lifts and accessible toilets in the Haldon and Brockman stands. Public accessible viewing areas are beside the Paddock, at the terrace by the Owners and Trainers Bar and in the Haldon Stand viewing gallery. One free personal assistant ticket is available to eligible visitors; call 01392 832599 on the day you buy your ticket to guarantee it. A Blue Badge alone does not prove eligibility.
Children and families
Under-18s have free entry at every Exeter fixture. A child ticket still needs to be included with the booking. Under-18s must enter with a responsible adult aged 21 or over, or their parent, to a limit of three children per adult. Those aged 15 and under must stay with the adult throughout; 16- and 17-year-olds may move about but their adult must remain on site.
Tips
- Book online for the best price: ordinary 2026 fixtures show from £18; Haldon Gold Cup was from £30 advance versus £35 at the gate.
- For Haldon Gold Cup Day, the published 2026 opening time was 10:40am; allow time for traffic and the security search.
- Save the ticket QR code to your phone or print the PDF in case your screen is cracked or the signal is weak.
- Choose a viewing spot, then use the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure between races.
- Carry a card for food and drink: concessions are cashless, and there are no cash machines at the course.
- Do not pack a picnic or alcohol; Exeter prohibits bringing food and drink in without written permission.
