Sandown Park Racecourse

A natural amphitheatre on the edge of London, open since 1875, with some of the best views in racing from its hillside grandstand. Sandown races over jumps in winter and on the Flat in summer, and Esher station is about half an hour from Waterloo.

A quick trip from London

Any raceday: Esher is half an hour from Waterloo.

Which enclosure should you choose?

Sandown has three ticket types: the Grandstand, the Premier Enclosure and the 1875 Lounge. Each better ticket includes the cheaper areas, and under-18s go free at most racedays. For a special occasion there are also restaurants and private boxes: box packages include a three-course buffet, afternoon tea or a cheeseboard, a hostess and a private balcony looking across the course towards the London skyline. Hospitality packages were listed from £109 in 2025.

All-rounder

Grandstand Enclosure

Dress code at Sandown Park Racecourse

Sandown’s current guidance puts comfort and personal choice first. Jeans, clean trainers and sweatshirts are among its examples, and visitors may also choose a suit or dress for a special meeting. Its FAQs confirm there is no formal dress code. Fancy dress is welcome provided it is appropriate and non-offensive; unsuitable outfits can lead to refusal of entry. As the course has uncovered areas, choose layers for the forecast and check the full official guidance before travelling.
