Where your ticket takes you
- Use the Premier Enclosure and its dedicated entrance; the official map marks the entrance beside the Premier car park.
- Move between the Premier lawns, the Hambleton Stand, the Parade Ring and the Winner’s Enclosure viewing area.
- Use the public Grandstand, Paddock & Picnic facilities too, including James Herriot Hall, Bar 67, the Family Stand, the Saddle Room Café and the picnic area.
- Premier dining and hospitality is available within the Hambleton Stand, including the Thomas Lord Dine & View Suite, Hambleton Dining Room, Stirrup Room package and private boxes.
Not included
- A restaurant table or hospitality package is not automatically part of ordinary Premier admission; reserve dining separately.
- A Premier badge does not include the separately sold Park & View vehicle ticket or a reserved private box.
The view
Premier has prime grandstand viewing beside the winning post, with lawns close to the Parade Ring and track. The official map places the Hambleton Stand, Premier viewing and accessible viewing areas along the central side of the course. You can watch a race from the stand, then walk a short distance to see runners paraded before going to post. The course notes that a new Premier grandstand is due for the start of the 2027 Flat season; the following facility descriptions refer to the 2026 arrangement.
Food and drink
Premier has Thirsk’s widest public choice of bars and dining, from quick sandwiches to separately booked sit-down meals.
Cherry Tree Bar and Lawn
The Pavilion ground floor has a full bar, hot and cold sandwiches, snacks, tea and coffee, indoor seating and lawn seating. A big screen and Tote betting are also available.
Pavilion Bar and Balcony
On the first floor, this bar serves drinks, cold sandwiches, snacks, tea and coffee, with indoor seats, a balcony overlooking the Paddock, a screen and Tote betting.
The Stirrup Room
A bar and indoor/outdoor seating close to the Pre-Parade Ring. The separately booked Stirrup Room package includes a reserved table, Premier badge and a choice of deli box; 2026 prices were £59 for evening and weekday meetings, £70 on Saturdays and £85 on Ladies’ Day.
Hambleton Dining Room and Thomas Lord Suite
The ground-floor dining room offers two- or three-course bistro meals at a reserved table, with afternoon tea as an optional extra. The first-floor Thomas Lord suite sells a three-course dine-and-view meal overlooking the track. Book either dining package separately.
Theakston Woolpack Bar
This bar beside the eastern side of the Parade Ring has indoor and beer-garden seating, a full bar and Tote betting; independent bookmakers are added for feature meetings.
Facilities
Betting
Premier has Tote facilities in its bars and dining areas. The course map also marks betting rings, a William Hill shop and the main betting facilities in the shared public grounds.
Seats, screens and cover
The Pavilion offers indoor seats and balcony viewing; the Cherry Tree Lawn and pop-up bars add outdoor seating, some covered. Screens are shown in the Pavilion and pop-up bar descriptions.
Toilets and lifts
The racecourse map marks accessible toilets around the Premier area and a lift to private boxes and the Thomas Lord Suite. Baby-changing and first-aid points are also shown.
Payments
Thirsk says cash and cards are accepted throughout catering, bars and Tote facilities. There is no cash machine on site; the nearest is about 500 metres away at Tesco opposite the course.
Dress code
The Premier dress code applies to ordinary Premier guests, restaurant diners and private-box parties. Men should wear a collared shirt or a collared jacket over a T-shirt, smart trousers, unripped jeans or tailored shorts, and smart shoes or clean, smart trainers. Smart occasion wear is encouraged for women. Jackets and ties are optional. Sportswear, fancy dress, ripped clothing and mottle-dyed denim are not allowed. Choose comfortable shoes for the lawns and walking between the stand and Parade Ring.
Getting in
Follow signs to the Premier entrance and dedicated Premier car park shown on the official course map. Premier badge holders can also enter through the Grandstand, Paddock & Picnic entrance, but use the Premier gate if you want the most direct route to the stand and lawns. The general ticket pages say gates open at fixture-specific times; a standard gate time for all meetings is not published. Bag searches may take place at management discretion. The course does not allow dogs except registered assistance dogs.
Accessibility
The 2026 map marks accessible parking, toilets and viewing spaces in the Premier area. The Cherry Tree Lawn, Stirrup Room, Theakston Woolpack Bar and Hambleton facilities are described by the course as accessible, with accessible toilets in several buildings; a lift serves the upper suite and boxes. Thirsk’s access page gives the process for a complimentary personal assistant ticket through its Digital Access Card. Contact the Access Officer on 01845 522276 or info@thirskracecourse.net to arrange the appropriate ticket and discuss a specific viewing position or route. The public pages do not give a single Premier-only step-free route diagram.
Children and families
Accompanied under-18s are admitted free to either public enclosure, but add a complimentary child e-ticket to the booking. If a child needs a restaurant or dining package, contact the office because the free admission ticket does not cover a dining place. The Premier code applies to children and adults in the Premier area; family groups may find the no-code Grandstand, Paddock & Picnic enclosure easier for a relaxed day.
Tips
- If you will attend several meetings, compare the £180 2026 season ticket with the single-day ticket cost; it covered all 16 fixtures and was transferable.
- Reserve the Hambleton or Thomas Lord dining package ahead of time. The FAQ says dining is booked in advance, though the office may have walk-in availability.
- For the 2026 Stirrup Room package, choose one deli box per guest and email the selection with the booking reference; its page gives separate weekday, Saturday, evening and Ladies’ Day prices.
- Bring a card or cash for raceday purchases. There is no on-site cash machine, and the nearest one listed is across the road at Tesco.
- The Premier ticket also reaches the public picnic facilities, but food and drink from outside cannot be brought into Premier itself.
Upgrading
Grandstand, Paddock & Picnic ticket holders may pay the designated upgrade fee on the day to transfer to Premier. Thirsk does not publish the transfer amount in its current public enclosure information; Premier badge holders already have access to the other public enclosure.
