Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure at Plumpton
This is Plumpton’s main public ticket, with the Sussex and Southdown grandstand areas, the parade ring, winner’s enclosure viewing, betting and catering. It also admits you to the Village Enclosure on the fixtures when that centre-course area is open.

Who it suits
- A first Plumpton visit when you want to explore both the paddock side and the trackside areas without choosing a single viewing spot.
- Racegoers who want to see the horses in the parade ring before each race as well as watch from the grandstand or near the winning post.
- Visitors who want the option of crossing to the Village Enclosure when it is open, while keeping access to the main bars, food and stands.

Where your ticket takes you
- The main Grandstand and Paddock public areas, including the Sussex and Southdown Stand ground floors.
- Parade ring and winner’s enclosure viewing, so you can watch the horses gather before racing and return after a result.
- Trackside viewing and the main on-course betting facilities.
- Entry to the Village Enclosure on selected fixtures when it is open; it is reached across the course and can be mainly grass.
Not included
- A reserved restaurant table, private box or hospitality meal; these must be booked separately and in advance.
- Permission to bring your own food or drink into this enclosure. Plumpton permits picnics, including alcohol, only in the Village Enclosure.
- A cashpoint: the racecourse says there is no ATM on site, although cash is accepted.
The view
The course is compact, so you can move between the grandstand, paddock side and trackside areas during the afternoon. Use the parade ring to see runners being saddled and presented before the race, then choose a spot by the stands or near the finish for the action. The racecourse lists raised viewing platforms close to the parade ring and Final Fence. Seating is available around the site, but the Sussex Grandstand top tier has limited seats, so do not assume you will find a chair there at the busiest moment.
Food and drink
There are bars and food outlets across the Grandstand & Paddock area; you can buy refreshments without booking a restaurant package.
Southdown Bar and Café
Serves light refreshments, locally roasted barista coffee, sandwiches, paninis and a selection of hot food.
Paddock Bar
Overlooks the parade ring and finishing line, with hot pies, sandwiches and light refreshments.
Chasers Bar and Coffee Hut
Chasers serves drinks, including cask beer from Harvey’s Brewery, and hot food. The Coffee Hut opposite the Southdown Bar sells coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
Food concessions
Stalls outside the Southdown Stand offer choices such as burgers, pizza and ice cream. The exact mix can vary by fixture.
Facilities
Betting
On-course betting facilities are included. You can enjoy the racing without placing a bet; betting is only for adults aged 18 or over.
Seating and shelter
There are seating options around the venue and some indoor space in the stands and bars. Picnic benches are available around the racecourse; top-tier Sussex Grandstand seats are limited.
Toilets and cash
Accessible toilets are listed in several bar areas and by the Final Fence marquee. There is no cashpoint, but Plumpton says cash is accepted at entrances and around the course.
Dress code
Plumpton has no formal dress code and encourages relaxed, smart-casual clothing. The course races mainly in colder months, so wear warm layers and shoes with grip for moving between outdoor viewing spots. Avoid wearing team kit; team colours are welcome. Fancy dress must not be offensive or inappropriate, as the racecourse can refuse entry.
Getting in
Use the main public entrance shown on your ticket; the racecourse has North and South entrances. Event pages publish fixture-specific opening times: for example, the Bob Champion Cancer Trust Raceday on 19 October 2026 lists gates at 12 noon, first race at 2pm and last race at 5.05pm. These are that day’s scheduled times, not a standard timetable. Tickets can be printed or shown on a smartphone, and no on-site cashpoint is available.
Accessibility
Step-free entry is available at the main entrances, reception, ticketing and turnstiles. Blue Badge parking is available in the main tarmac car park and in the centre of the course on a first-come basis; a drop-off point is at the South Entrance. Free wheelchair hire is available at both entrances subject to availability. Outdoor stair lifts reach first floors of the Sussex and Southdown stands, while raised platforms sit near the parade ring and final fence. One free companion or personal assistant ticket is available with an eligible accessible ticket; contact Plumpton on 01273 890383 or racing@plumptonracecourse.co.uk to arrange it.
Children and families
Children and young people aged 17 and under go free when accompanied by an adult and do not need an admission ticket, according to the racecourse. Family entertainment is scheduled on selected Feature and Family Fun racedays rather than every meeting. The general admission ticket page does not list a separate child price because accompanied under-18s are admitted free.
Tips
- Look at the fixture page before setting off: gates and race times change by meeting, and the Village enclosure is only open on selected dates.
- Arrive early if you want a good view of the parade ring before a popular race; you can then move to the grandstand or finish area.
- Wear shoes that cope with damp ground, especially if you plan to walk across to the Village enclosure.
- Bring a payment card or cash from before you arrive: there is no on-course cashpoint, but cash is accepted.
Upgrading
For a reserved table and meal, book the Paddock Restaurant or Final Fence Restaurant in advance. Private boxes and suites are also available separately; these packages include race admission.
