General Enclosure at Southwell
The General Enclosure ticket is Southwell’s public admission option. It gives access to the public grandstand, trackside areas, Parade Ring, public bars and food outlets, and betting facilities; paid restaurant and hospitality rooms are separate.

Who it suits
- First-time visitors who want to explore the public parts of the course at their own pace.
- Racegoers who want trackside and Parade Ring access without paying for a restaurant package.
- Families who want to bring accompanied children, who usually enter free.
Ticket prices
| Fixture | Ticket price shown |
|---|---|
| Friday 18 DecemberChristmas Party Raceday; Grandstand Advance | £19.00 |
| Saturday 3 OctoberOktoberfest event listing; displayed online price | £22.00 |
These are fixture-specific 2026 online prices, not a season tariff. The racecourse FAQ says general tickets are also sold at the gate by card, but it does not give a standard on-the-day amount. Seniors aged 60+ and students receive £3 off the on-the-day Grandstand price with proof.
Where your ticket takes you
- The public Grandstand and General Enclosure areas.
- The pre-parade and Parade Rings, with viewing around the horse walk and runners before each race.
- Public bars, food outlets and public betting facilities.
- The outdoor picnic area shown on the official course map; event-specific restrictions may apply.
Not included
- Seasons Restaurant, Minster Suite, Winning Post Restaurant, private chalets and separately sold hospitality packages.
- A reserved restaurant table or guaranteed seat in the public areas.
The view
You can watch from the public grandstand or move around the outdoor areas and trackside. The Parade Ring is open to General Enclosure ticket holders and gives a close look at the runners before their races. The racecourse map also marks an outdoor picnic area. The venue is predominantly outdoors, so views and comfort depend on the weather.
Food and drink
The General Enclosure has public catering, bars and a mapped picnic area.
Public bars and catering
Southwell’s public areas have bars and food outlets; the exact range varies by fixture. Bars and catering are cashless, and no ATMs are on site.
Picnic area
The course map labels an outdoor picnic area. The racecourse’s FAQ says picnics are permitted outdoors but alcohol, glass and metal knives are not allowed; fixture-specific conditions may apply.
Fixture offers
Some meetings sell a separate food-and-drink bundle. For example, the 18 December 2026 event listed a £31 Festive Feast ticket including a hot drink and festive wrap.
Facilities
Betting
A betting hall and betting ring are shown on the course map. The venue has BritBet and bookmakers; bookmakers may take cash, while food and drink outlets are cashless.
Seating
Public seating is limited, but visitors may bring their own chairs. Most race viewing is outdoors.
Accessible viewing
Wheelchair viewing ramps are near the horse walk, winners enclosure and Parade Ring; accessible toilets are at the betting hall, food court and rear of the Food Pantry.
Family facilities
The map marks baby-changing facilities, accessible toilets, information and first aid.
Dress code
The General Enclosure dress code is relaxed. Southwell’s only stated restrictions are sporting team shirts and offensive fancy dress. Race meetings are mostly outdoors, so wear suitable shoes and bring waterproofs or sun protection for the season.
Getting in
Use the General Enclosure entrance, not the separate hospitality entrance. Gates normally open 90 minutes to two hours before the first race; fixture pages publish the day’s schedule. Tickets are emailed and can be scanned on a phone. Online general tickets remain available during the meeting, and gate purchases are card-only. Food and alcohol policies vary by fixture; the FAQ says outside alcohol and glass are not allowed.
Accessibility
All public ground-floor areas, including the full General Enclosure, are accessible. Wheelchair ramps are beside the horse walk, winners enclosure and Parade Ring. Accessible toilets are in the betting hall, food court and rear of the Food Pantry; parking for visitors with accessible needs is in Car Parks A and B. A personal assistant enters free with a paying guest and proof of need; claim the badge at the entrance.
Children and families
Children aged 17 and under enter free with an adult; up to three children under 17 may attend with one paying adult. Collect a free ticket on the day if required by the fixture. Some event exclusions apply. Under-12s cannot take part in the separately sold Best Turned Out Parade Ring experience, but that does not change the general child-entry policy.
Tips
- Arrive early for the Parade Ring if you want to see the horses close up before their races.
- Take a card for food and drinks; there are no ATMs and the outlets are cashless.
- Bring a chair if you need one; the FAQ says visitors may bring their own, though seating is limited.
- Check fixture-specific prices: the online ticket examples range from £19 advance to £22 on an event page in 2026.
Upgrading
If there is space, the FAQ says visitors may upgrade to another enclosure on the day by visiting the racecourse office.
