Picnic Enclosure at Huntingdon
A seasonal option for visitors bringing their own picnic. The dedicated page describes a trackside Picnic Car Park where people can picnic from their cars; the general enclosure page also identifies a lawn picnic area on selected family fixtures.

Who it suits
- Visitors who want to bring their own food to an eligible family or Bank Holiday fixture.
- Families who would rather eat outside or picnic from their own car than rely only on racecourse outlets.
- Racegoers looking for a relaxed trackside place, provided the selected meeting has opened the picnic area.

The current enclosure page says the picnic area opens only on specific race days and still shows an older dated example. The Family Fest page for 25 May 2026 linked picnic terms, but no later 2026 opening or separate price is published in those pages.
Where your ticket takes you
- On fixtures when it opens, the Picnic Enclosure is described as adjacent to the track, with trackside views from the car park.
- Huntingdon’s general enclosure page also calls the picnic lawn a Picnic Area/Enclosure and says picnics must be eaten there on permitted family fixtures.
- The Main Enclosure has the racecourse bars, food outlets, betting facilities and toilets; the picnic page directs visitors there for these services.
- The racecourse says the Picnic Enclosure is only open on specific racedays; it does not operate as a separate all-season public area.
Not included
- A picnic permission at every meeting; the FAQ limits picnics to Bank Holiday feature racedays unless the fixture information says otherwise.
- Barbecues, gazebos, tents or large furniture.
- A published current picnic ticket or parking charge; the enclosure page does not show one.
The view
The dedicated page describes the Picnic Car Park as adjacent to the track, so the unusual appeal is being able to picnic from your own car with a view of the racing. The general enclosure overview also refers to a designated lawn area for picnics on selected family fixtures. Use the Main Enclosure for the parade ring, food and drink outlets, betting and toilets; picnic access is not a replacement for all public facilities.
Food and drink
Picnic visitors bring their own food only on the fixtures where Huntingdon permits it.
Your own picnic
Bring food and non-alcoholic drinks on an authorised picnic fixture and use the designated lawn or car-park area.
Alcohol limits
The picnic page allows a substantial picnic with up to half a 750ml bottle of wine, Champagne or prosecco per person, or four cans of beer, cider or pre-mixed aperitif. It defines a substantial picnic as at least a sandwich or equivalent plus a snack per person.
Main Enclosure outlets
The course directs picnic visitors to the Main Enclosure for its bars and food outlets, betting facilities and toilets.
Facilities
Trackside picnic parking
The dedicated enclosure page describes the Picnic Car Park beside the track and a picnic setup from the comfort of your own car.
Outdoor seating
Picnic rugs and fold-out chairs or tables are permitted. Gazebos, tents and other large furniture are not.
No barbecues
Huntingdon prohibits barbecues on the racecourse for visitor safety.
Food, betting and toilets
These facilities are in the Main Enclosure rather than the picnic area.
Dress code
There is no separate dress code for the picnic area. Wear practical outdoor clothing and shoes for a grass or car-park setting. Huntingdon allows picnic rugs and fold-out chairs or tables, but not gazebos, tents or other large furniture, and barbecues are prohibited.
Getting in
This area is only available on selected dates; the dedicated Picnic Enclosure page gives the 26 May 2025 Family Extravaganza as an example, while the 2026 Family Fest page dated 25 May 2026 linked picnic terms and has now passed. Neither page lists a later 2026 opening or the picnic entrance route. Check the chosen event page and contact Huntingdon on 01480 453373 to confirm access for that fixture; the next date is not published.
Accessibility
The racecourse publishes Blue Badge parking near its entrances, accessible entrance points, accessible toilets and a raised viewing area beside the track. It does not say whether the Picnic Car Park or lawn has an accessible route, dedicated spaces or firm-surface paths. Contact the racecourse on 01480 453373 before booking if you need those details; the general accessibility page offers a complimentary personal-assistant ticket with a valid admission ticket on application.
Children and families
The Picnic Enclosure page does not set out separate child prices or age rules. Huntingdon’s general FAQ says accompanied under-18s are free at most fixtures, subject to ticket availability, with a small number of high-demand dates requiring paid child admission. Under-18s must be with a responsible adult aged 21 or over, or a parent; no adult may accompany more than three under-18s.
Tips
- Only bring a picnic when the specific fixture page or racecourse has confirmed that the picnic area is open; Huntingdon does not permit picnics at ordinary meetings.
- Use a picnic rug or folding chair, not a gazebo, tent or barbecue.
- If bringing alcohol, follow the published per-person limit and make sure the picnic meets Huntingdon’s definition of substantial.
- Plan to walk into the Main Enclosure for toilets, betting and other bars or food outlets.
Upgrading
The public enclosure page links the Picnic Enclosure and Main Enclosure; a Main Enclosure ticket provides the covered grandstand, Parade Ring and course food outlets.
