Where your ticket takes you

Not included

The view

The course describes Grandstand & Paddock as a little further from the winning post than Premier but still offering excellent views. The terraced stands give a direct look at the action, and Pizza in the Paddock has a large terrace that can be used as another viewing spot. The Parade Ring and Pre-Parade Ring are within the ticket area, so you can switch from race viewing to seeing the horses before they head to post.

Food and drink

There are several bars, a cafe and hot-food options here; some outlets, including the Balcony Bar and kiosk, operate only on certain days.

Paddock Cafe

The only restaurant the racecourse names in this enclosure; it is on the top floor of the Main Stand.

Pizza in the Paddock

Freshly cooked pizzas and craft ale, with a large terraced area and extra seating.

Furlong and Paddock bars

The facilities page lists the Furlong Bar and Paddock Bar; the food page describes Lounge Bar service and hot and cold snacks.

Second-stand outlets

The second stand has a Lounge Bar, first-floor bar and tea bar/servery. Mobile burger and ice-cream vans vary by raceday.

Facilities

Terraced stands

Open-air terraces provide race viewing; take a waterproof layer and expect exposed areas.

Parade viewing

Both the Parade Ring and Pre-Parade Ring are in the facilities list for this badge.

Betting and toilets

Tote betting and bookmakers are available around the venue. Accessible toilets are provided in each enclosure.

Cash and card

All bars take both cash and card according to the FAQ. Online tickets do not accept American Express.

Dress code

Pontefract publishes a dress code only for the Premier Enclosure. There is no specific dress requirement for Grandstand & Paddock, so smart or casual clothes are fine. Most viewing is outdoors; wear shoes you can stand and walk in and carry layers for wind or rain. The evening meetings can cool quickly once the sun drops, especially if you plan to watch from the terrace.

Getting in

Follow the signs to the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure Entrance (what3words: bump.spoken.chose), which is marked on the official course map. Have each ticket ready for scanning; Family Ticket holders are specifically directed to these turnstiles. General opening guidance is noon for midweek afternoons, 11.30am Sundays and 4.30pm evenings, but fixture pages publish the operative gate time. The FAQ does not set out a general bag-size policy.

Accessibility

There is step-free access to the enclosure, an accessible toilet and a viewing ramp. The Main Stand lift serves all floors, including the top-floor Paddock Cafe. If you need a personal assistant, buy your own valid admission first and then request the complimentary PA ticket online or on 01977 781307. Pontefract asks for supporting evidence and matching photo ID; a Blue Badge on its own does not qualify. The course does not publish specific ramp gradients or a separate accessible parking allocation for this entrance.

Children and families

Accompanied under-18s enter free to all three public enclosures, including Grandstand & Paddock. On the 2026 Family Days, the £30 online advance Family Ticket admitted two adults and their children under 18 to this area. It also allowed access to children’s entertainment in Picnic, but did not permit parking a car in the Picnic car park.

Tips

Upgrading

The racecourse says visitors can upgrade at transfer gates or the Raceday Office by paying the price difference. A Grandstand & Paddock badge already includes Picnic; upgrade to Premier if you want Premier-only facilities and all-enclosure access.
