Where your ticket takes you
- All three public enclosures: Premier, Grandstand & Paddock, and Picnic. Premier is the broadest public admission badge.
- Covered seating and the public facilities in the Main Stand, subject to available seats.
- The Parade Ring and Pre-Parade Ring, where you can watch the horses being saddled and led out.
- Premier bars and dining facilities, including the Champagne Bar and Terrace, Lounge Bar, Premier Restaurant and Premier Sports Cafe Bar.
Not included
- A reserved seat or table in the Park Suite; that is a separately priced Premier Gold package.
- Private hospitality boxes, the Dalby Stand shared dining packages and the Ladies Day Marquee package.
- Entry for a car into the Picnic Enclosure; Cars to Course is a separate ticket.
The view
The Premier side is nearest the winning post. The Main Stand has covered seating and sightlines over the finishing straight; outside, the winning-post area and Parade Ring are useful places to watch different parts of the day. The course’s racecourse map marks the Parade Ring and Premier entrance. Expect popular positions to be busiest around the main races, so choose a viewing spot before the horses leave the paddock.
Food and drink
Premier gives the largest choice of named bars and dining rooms, although a standard admission badge does not reserve a table or include a meal.
Champagne Bar and Terrace
The racecourse lists a full bar service and seafood sandwiches here; the terrace is part of the Premier facilities.
Lounge Bar
A full bar service in the Premier area, useful for drinks between races.
Premier Restaurant
In the Main Stand, with tables overlooking the finishing straight and Parade Ring. Restaurant bookings are separate from admission and tables are not held for the whole afternoon.
Premier Sports Cafe Bar
The official food page lists a full bar, tea and coffee, and hot and cold buffet.
Facilities
Covered seating
The Premier facilities list covered seating, including the Main Stand. Admission does not itself reserve a seat.
Betting
The racecourse provides Tote facilities in ticketed areas and bookmakers around the course.
Cash and card
The FAQ says all bars accept both cash and card; online ticket bookings do not accept American Express.
Toilets and lifts
Accessible toilets are listed in every enclosure. Lifts in the Main and Dalby stands reach all floors.
Dress code
The only published enclosure dress code is for Premier. Pontefract asks for smart-casual clothing and excludes scruffy jeans, shorts, T-shirts, sportswear and trainers; it does not require a jacket and tie. Smart trousers, a collared shirt or a neat dress meet the stated request. This is still an outdoor raceday, so comfortable shoes and a coat for changeable Yorkshire weather are practical.
Getting in
Use the Premier Enclosure entrance shown on the racecourse map (what3words: nest.test.trip) and have your ticket ready for scanning. The FAQ gives typical opening times of noon for a midweek afternoon, 11.30am Sunday and 4.30pm for an evening, while individual fixture pages publish their own schedule. The public FAQ does not state a general bag-size limit. Premier admission may be bought in advance or at the gate; advance booking is cheaper and pre-booked Premier tickets include a racecard.
Accessibility
Pontefract says every enclosure has step-free access, accessible toilets and a viewing ramp; lifts in the Main and Dalby stands serve all floors. To request a free personal-assistant ticket, first buy the racegoer’s ticket, then apply online or by phone on 01977 781307. The current policy asks for a qualifying benefit award letter or registered-blind certification and matching photo ID; a Blue Badge alone is not accepted. The racecourse’s published accessibility information does not say whether every Park Suite balcony is step-free, so contact the office about a particular table or viewing position.
Children and families
Accompanied under-18s are admitted free to every enclosure at every meeting, but the adult needs a valid ticket. Under-18s can also book the Park Suite for £37.50 in 2026, compared with adult prices of £98 midweek/Monday evening, £102 Sunday, £106 Friday evening and £108 on Ladies Day. Those are dining package prices, not the cost of a standard Premier badge.
Tips
- If you want to explore every public area, Premier is the one ticket that includes both Grandstand & Paddock and Picnic.
- For a standard midweek meeting after April, advance Premier is £21 and the gate price is £23; prices are higher for Sunday, Friday evenings and Ladies Day.
- Pre-booked Premier admission includes a racecard, which is not stated for the other standard admission categories.
- Bring a card or cash for bars: the venue says both are accepted, while American Express is not accepted online.
- Find the Main Stand lift and viewing ramp on the racecourse map if stairs are difficult.
Upgrading
Grandstand & Paddock or Picnic visitors can ask about an upgrade at the Raceday Office or transfer gates; the facilities page says a move to another enclosure is made by paying the difference. Availability and the precise transfer gate location are not detailed on the public page.
