The view
A Premier Badge gives access to Ludlow’s public areas, including the grandstand, paddock, Parade Ring, Winners’ Enclosure and outside bookmaker areas. The Grandstand is partly covered, so it offers some shelter, but the racecourse is mainly an outdoor venue. From the course there are views towards Clee Hill and the Shropshire countryside. Move between the stand and paddock to see the horses before races and gather near the winning line for the finish. The public Members Enclosure is included in the badge, but the separate Annual Members’ Lounge is not. The ticket does not reserve a seat; racegoers choose from public viewing areas throughout the afternoon.
Food and drink
The public ticket gives access to on-course bars and cafes, where food and drink are purchased separately.
Fairway cafe
Open to all racegoers, serving all-day breakfast, hot and cold snacks, drinks and alcohol.
Tattersalls cafe
The FAQ says this cafe serves hot and cold snacks, drinks and alcohol to Tattersalls or Premier Badge holders.
Clive Pavilion
The Pavilion has a bar, cafeteria and carvery, with hot drinks, snacks and meals. It caters for Day Members and is part of the public hospitality offer.
Feature-day concessions
Larger meetings may add outside bars and burger vans around the course.
Facilities
Partly covered Grandstand
The stand has some covered seating, but most of the meeting is outdoors.
Betting
Tote facilities and outside bookmakers are listed with the Premier Badge ticket. Betting is optional.
Cash and card
The course has no ATM, but cash is available from the Racecourse Office. Digital tickets can be scanned from a phone.
Parking and shuttle
Parking is free and the station shuttle is complimentary on racedays; the shuttle usually makes three runs before racing and returns after the last race.
Dress code
There is no strict dress code at Ludlow. The racecourse’s advice is to dress for the weather, with smart informal clothing suggested for dining areas and the Members Enclosure. A suit, hat or dress is optional; comfort matters more on an outdoor winter jumps course. The Grandstand is only partly covered and most of the venue is open air, so bring a waterproof and warm layers. Practical shoes are useful on lawns and walkways, especially after rain. Contact the office ahead of time if you plan fancy dress, as the course asks visitors to discuss it in advance.
Getting in
Buy the Premier Badge online in advance or at the turnstiles. For 2026 normal race days the single ticket is £22 online or £24 on the day; feature meetings have different rates. Digital tickets are scanned from a phone, and gates open two hours before the first race. For the 22 October 2026 meeting, the first race is scheduled for 1:45pm and gates open at 11:45am. Free parking is available on course. The complimentary shuttle bus runs from Ludlow station, about two miles away, with three pre-race runs and return runs after the last race. No ATM is on site; cash is available from the office. No public bag restrictions are stated in the checked visitor information.
Accessibility
Ludlow provides step-free access to key public areas and accessible viewing close to the winning line. Accessible toilets are near the Grandstand and hospitality areas; the main bars are at ground level. Blue Badge parking close to the main entrance is limited and must be requested in advance. One carer or personal assistant may attend free with an eligible visitor if arranged before race day; the course asks for at least 48 hours’ notice where possible and accepts DLA/PIP evidence or a medical professional’s letter with photo ID. Contact the office at 01584 856221 or mail@ludlowracecourse.co.uk. Registered assistance dogs are welcome with notice.
Children and families
The racecourse FAQ says children aged 17 and under attend free with an adult at most meetings; Festival fixtures and Live After Racing events are exceptions. Children do not usually need a ticket, but proof of age may be requested. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult under the racecourse terms. A Premier Badge does not include a child’s meal or a reserved family table. The course has a family-friendly raceday calendar and public cafes, but no dedicated children’s enclosure is listed. Ask the office if the selected fixture has an exception to the free-child rule.
Tips
- Book online to save £2 on a normal 2026 meeting: £22 advance versus £24 at the gate.
- For Tanners Race Day on 16 December 2026, the listed rates are £24 online and £28 on the day.
- Arrive early if you want a covered Grandstand position; the rest of the course is mostly outdoors.
- Bring a card and some cash: the venue has no ATM, but the Racecourse Office can provide cash for betting.
Upgrading
For indoor dining, book the Jubilee Restaurant or Plymouth Carvery. Private boxes are available in the Jubilee or Plymouth Stands; the Windsor Marquee sells lunch or afternoon tea on selected feature dates. A 2026 Annual Membership adds the separate lounge and car park pass.
